Empire to Umpire by Normal Hillmer Essay - 555 Words

In regards to chapter twelve of Empire to Umpire, I found it to have a pro-Liberal viewpoint. In particularly, regards to the stance on multiculturalism, humanitarian aid, and the projection of Canadian values aboard, I found it framed in the context that put Canadian foreign policy in the best possible light. A possible reason for this could be due to the historical context in which it was written, 1994. This was shortly thereafter the end of the Cold War, and after the recent Liberal win in the 1993 election. At this period works were being published, such as Francis Fukuyama’s The End of History and the Last Man, prophesising a new era of peace, prosperity and the exportation of democratic values in much the same manner that the†¦show more content†¦Also I found that there was a sort of absolution of the responsibility for the Canadian government. There is repeated stressing that the Americans were responsible for Arar’s deportation and tribulation due to t he fact that the Americans deported him from their own soil despite the fact that he was a Canadian citizen. It goes on to talk about how he was still on the American no-fly list despite the fact the Canadian government cleared him of any wrongdoing and offered him a settlement. Looking now at â€Å"Can the Silence Be Broken?† I find a lot of the points to be quite accurate; particularly when it comes to the predetermined gender roles and idea of the woman’s role to be outside of the public eye. In regards to the Free Trade agreements I wonder if this one of those contextual arguments, in terms of in 1994 the NAFTA agreement had only recently been signed, in which the argument today, and looking the differences in women’s roles in society today and to what degree the role of women has changed in the almost twenty years since this article was published. Also I have to argue against the fact that the free trade agreements have harmed the wages of women since due to the fact that today the women’s rights issues seem to do with the issue of abortion and there is no talk of repealing the free trade agreement from

Henry is an examination of ideas put forward by Karl Marx as well as Friedrich Engel in The German Ideology and their correlation with the principles of neoclassical economics. This idea is referred to as the â€Å"Illusion of the epoch† and is described by Henry as being â€Å"A conceptual framework in which the ideas of the dominant economic class are the dominant ideas in a society and increasingly present themselves as both abstract and universal† (Henry 28) Basically, this means that those in power and those with influence being political, economic, or even social ultimately decide what happens in society and often these ideas are taken as universal truths despite what may actually be. He goes on to explain how that in a â€Å"minority ruling class society† those who ar e in the minority ruling class must try to rationalize to the much larger working class that the interests of the elites are in the best interest of the society as a whole. In this paper, the Illusion of the epoch will be explored, as well as how this illusion effects economies throughout time. In addition, it will use neoclassical economics as a base point, and respond to assertions made by J.F. Henry in his piece. John F. Henry goes on to say that throughout history, this illusion takes its toll in

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK A conceptual model is a set of constructs and propositions that spell out the relationship between them. The overall intent is to do scientific findings meaningful and generalisable. Concepts are the mental images of phenomena and are the edifice blocks of the survey. Polit and Hungler ( 1999 ) states that the conceptual model is an interconnected construct of abstractions that are assembled together in some strategy by their relevancy to a common thing. This is a device that helps to excite research and the extension of cognition by supplying both way and drift. The present survey is aimed at measuring the ego attention ability and cognition of shot patients in Senthil Multi Speciality Hospital, Erode. The conceptual model selected for the survey is based on Orem ‘s self attention shortage theory ( 1985 ) . Orem defined self attention as learned, end oriented activity directed toward the ego in the involvement of keeping life, wellness development and good being. Major CONCEPTS AND DEFINITIONS Orem labels her ego attention theory of nursing as a general theory composed of three related constructs. THE CONCEPT OF SELF CARE Describes and explains self attention. What the client should execute to keep hygiene. In this survey it is the ego attention activities performed by the client like bathing, dressing, combing, eating, ambulation, lavatory usage and placement. THE CONCEPT OF SELF CARE DEFICIT Describes and explains why people can be helped through nursing. In this survey it is the province in which the client is non able to execute the ego attention activities ( bathing, dressing, eating, ambulation, intestine and bladder control ) or the dependence degree that require aid in run intoing the ends. THE CONCEPT OF Nursing SYSTEM It is a uninterrupted series or actions that are directed to run into individual ‘s curative ego attention demand. There are three types of nursing system: WHOLLY COMPENSATORY SYSTEM If the client is unable to execute actions, the system is entirely compensatory that is the nurse performs all actions. In this survey, it refers to the to the full dependent shot clients or those requires assistance to execute their activities of day-to-day life like bathing, dressing, combing, eating, vesica and intestine control, ambulation and placement. PARTIALLY COMPENSATORY SYSTEM If the nurse and patient portion the duty, the system is partly compensatory. In this survey, it refers to the partly independent and partly dependent shot clients those who requires moderate aid by the important others or nurse in executing the activities of day-to-day life like feeding, bathing, ambulation, placement. SUPPORTIVE EDUCATIVE SYSTEM When a patient provides all self care necessitating motions and lone instruction is required as a grid to activity so it is supportive educative system. In this survey, it refers to the to the full independent shot clients, those who are able to make the ego attention activities and requires wellness instruction sing bar of accidents, safe bed to chair and chair to bed transportation techniques, importance of early rehabilitation to better the societal activities and steps to forestall the secondary shot onslaught. SELF CARE AGENCY It is the person ‘s ability to execute self care activities. It consists of two agencies.s SELF CARE AGENT: The individual who provides the ego attention. In this survey, the ego attention agent is client ‘s with shot. DEPENDENT CARE AGENT: The individual other than the person who provides attention. In this survey, the dependant attention agent is the research worker, who assesses the cognition sing significance, hazard factors, causes, marks and symptoms, direction and bar of secondary shot onslaught. THERAPEUTIC SELF CARE DEMAND: Curative ego attention demand is the summing up of ego attention actions to be performed for some continuance of clip and in some location to run into self care necessities particularized for a individual. In this survey, it refers to the impart cognition sing significance, causes, hazard factors, marks and symptoms, direction and bar of secondary shot onslaught and do the patient to execute self attention sing personal lavatory, eating, lavatory usage, vesica and intestine control, ambulation. This chapter dealt with the debut, demand for the survey, statement of the job, aim of the survey, operational definitions, premises, restriction and conceptual model. Article Comparison - Solution is Just a Click Away

Questions: Compare and contrast the article below1 Gourevitch, P ( 2011). "We wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our familie" AND Milgram, j.(2011). "Behavioral study of obedience". TWO PAGES with their thesis2. Harris, M. (2011). "Unrepentant whore" AND Woolf, V. (2011). Professions for women. TWO PAGES thesis.3.Kincaid,J. (2011). "On seeing England for the first time" AND Milgram, S. (2011). Behavioural study of obedience. Answers: The article "We wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our families" by Gourevitch reminds us of the tragic incident of Rwandan genocide which happened in 1994 (Gourevitch Stewart 2015). There were two populations in Rwanda namely Tutsi and Hutu. In this incident, the Tutsi's population were brutally killed by the Hutu's population (Weitz 2015). Both the population were similar in their identity had same language and culture and were historically same but it was the hatred for Tutsi population about economic issues that led to this massacre. The first part of the book reveals about the survivors conditions, about being threatened, their escape and how they lost their families in front of them. The second part deals with the post experiences of people after the genocide where the people who survived had drastic experiences about the incident and after that also for many years they had to live under threat and danger that they might not be killed (Thompson et al., 201 6). The article "Behavioral study of obedience" is related to the psychology. It is the universal element of nature which exists in every individual but nowadays it is overshadowed by the conformity. This article shows that obedience being the powerful element in one life but people emphasize more on their priorities. Being obedience requires that people should love towards themselves and to the other people and to their cultures, beliefs and practices which the people are not so (Baumrind 2013). These two articles differ in the individuals principles towards their life. In the first article people killed other people just for the sake of economic issues and different race (Mamdani, (2014). where person are taking the life of another without even giving a second thought, they all are the same and such race discrimination should not affect their lives but all was in vain. There was a massacre killing which led to a horrendous incident. Where as the second article shows that every individual should be obedient towards other and help them in every way out. The article summarizes that obedience is that tool which shows a persons character and by employing this in life one can get very successful as it helps them to cooperate and lead a peaceful life but the people has denied this and has given up their lives in the hands of their nerves to lead a materialistic and luxurious life rather than to live a life of obedience and peaceful. The article Unrepentant Whore reveals the life of a sex worker that these people dont have any sorts of protection for their entire life, and they are forced to the end of the society to live a life of unwanted and unfit (Pheterson 2015). The author through this article wants to convey that the government of such cities should make some policies for these workers so that they can lead a better life as they are also humans created by God and the author also emphasized that a people doesn't become a sex worker by its own, but the situations in his life make him do so. The making of the policies struck the author's mind when a drastic murder and abduction of the sex workers were taking place in many parts of Canada. The sex workers were either being killed, or they were missing from their homes. There was the scenario that someone was killing them because they were the sex workers. Thus, the life of the sex workers was not safe in Canada, and the women were brutally killed (Stardust 201 5). The article Professions for Women basically focuses on the life of women who want to have some profession in their life so that they can make their identity of themselves (Wolf 2013). But to do so for them was very difficult as they had to go through many obstacles to have a profession. In those days when many famous women like Fanny Burney, Aphra Behn made the path easier for women to have a profession and social world yet they were not given so because they were thought to please the population of men only (Singh et al., 2014). The author of the article says that she was just a writer who started writing from home sitting in the four corners of the wall without any investment but still she had to face many problems and at that time the Angel in the House used to bother her, trouble her she became the phantom for the author and at last the author killed her and the second experience the author shares was that though she became the novelist yet she had not been overcome the obstacles in her life as some prevailed because the society is dominated by the men where women need time to overspread. Both the articles have a similar idea which is about the women. The first article says about the story of a sex worker where a woman does not to want to go into this profession but she is forced by the society and when she enters this her life is not secure and at threat. The second article says that a woman who is in a writing profession also faces many obstacles in her life to get success as the male population does not let her do so (Evans-Lacko et al., 2013). So the women whether a sex worker or a normal writer confined in a room, are not safe and does not have much freedom to do of their own as they are dominated by the society of males. The article On Seeing England for the first time" the author Kincaid reveals about the views she had of England during her child hood days when she was in school. She has seen England for the very first time on the map and was very much fascinated by it (Mortimer 2013). Since her childhood, she had to accept the fact that England was the master in her life for everything as she used to live in the British colony. She compares England with her childhood experiences and when she grew up. In the phase of growing up, she saw the England changing too as it became the dictator in her life as her whole life was controlled by it. When she went to England for the first time after marriage she saw that people were rude, they were disobedient towards everything. The article "Behavioral Study of Obedience" by Milgram is a study on the people obedience towards themselves and also to the other people or situations in the life. The author says that in earlier days obedience was a tool for people personality, and people used to flaunt this through their activities and personality but with the passage of time this word became obsolete, and now no longer people are working on it but rather they have engrossed in this materialistic world and to the luxuries of it that they no longer require being obedient towards anyone. Nowadays people have become the slaves of their desires and their thoughts where they want to do that which they like or want and not what the society demands. So the author made a survey that how obedience affects the people through this study (Riva et al., 2014 ). Both the article has an underlying hidden idea which is obedience and respect for people or the society in which one is living. In the first article, the author imagined that England was a good place because she was made to learn so in her childhood days and from that time she imagined England in that way but when she grew up she saw that England had become a dictator for her which controlled her throughout though she dint had a chance to visit England, but when she went there after her marriage she was surprised to see that England is not the same as she thought to be. The customs, the people were selfish, they made discriminations against the people, and they dint even spare the monuments. The people dint show respect to the historic monuments and were disobedient in all respects. The view for England changed for the author as she grew up and it turned to full hatred when she saw the people behaviour towards her. The second article behavioral study of obedience reflects on the fact that no matter what people should be obedient towards their life or to anyone. They should not overlook this fact that being obedient makes people a better one and they can succeed in their life. By conducting the experiment on the obedience pattern, the author wants to show that there are the fewer number of people who are still obedient and wants to live their life that way, but they are curbed by the majority of those people who are disobedient and have given up their life in the hands of luxury and materialism. Thus, the two articles revolve around the same idea that people should be obedient and respectful towards everyone and all things in their life. References: Baumrind, D. (2013).
